A place for my knitting ramblings ...

Oscar Fever

I had full intentions of writing a post before the Oscars and predicting the outcome. Didn't happen (obvs). So, instead, I will comment now.

First of all, I was SO happy when The Danish Poet took the Oscar for Animated Short. Typically, this is the kind of thing that the general public has little or no exposure to. The wonderful Detroit Film Theatre, however, made it possible for me to see this short and it is just about the cutest thing EVER. Matt & I loved it! And it has knitting in it ... so how can you go wrong? I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance!

Other awards that I was kind of excited about:
Documentary - An Inconvenient Truth (although Jesus Camp looks good, too!)
Live Action Short - West Bank Story (campy & fun!)
Original Screenplay - Little Miss Sunshine (figured that it would never win Best Picture, so this is a nice nod)
Best Supporting Actor - Alan Arkin

Overall I thought the show was good. Ellen did a nice job. I liked the focus on the nominees, rather than just the winners. Ok ... one final thought. What the hell is up with Jennifer Hudson's red carpet metallic bolero? Is she rocketing into outer space later? Thank God she took it off before the actual ceremony.

ok - but once she took off the ugly bolero, did it not look like she was going to fall out of her dress? I thought she looked sloppy but I'm glad she won!

I had planned to watch the Oscars and knit, but instead just knitted and we never turned on the television. Oh well!

I only got to watch the last hour, but I thought seeing scorsese win was pretty cool.

I think i'm going to see the animated shorts at a museum soon - I can't wait!

Yes, that bolero was tragic. It looked very sharp, as in "ouch!" Jesus Camp looks really good - it's been on my Netflix list for a while.
