K + M : Honeymoon Part II

The second part of our honeymoon was spent in Northern California. We flew from Los Cabos to Pheonix to Monterey. The first order of business was a stop at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which I highly recommend! It was great fun. We even got to see a whale in the bay ... NEAT!

We spent the afternoon exploring the Kelp Forest, hanging with the sea otters and enjoying the Jellies exhibit. You have to see the 1.2 million gallon Outer Bay exhibit - it is unbelievable!

We stayed at an awesome hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Tradewinds Carmel is a motel that has been transformed into an Asian-inspired boutique hotel. Super comfy with Aveda bath products & a fireplace - we loved it!

Carmel is so cute - we enjoyed walking around town, especially to breakfast & dinner. Grasing's was quite good and La Bicyclette was a real treat!

A drink by a fireplace at Hog's Breath seemed like the thing to do, but we walked in and walked right out ... awful music and atmosphere.

We spent one day in Big Sur - which is absolutely gorgeous. We started the day with a fantastic breakfast at the Big Sur Inn (YUM!). Then we headed south to take a short hike to a waterfall at Jules Pfeiffer Burns State Park. I am saddened to hear about the fires in this part of California right now.

Look how beautiful it is!

In the afternoon, we stopped at the Big Sur Branch Library and the Henry Miller Library. And of course, we headed to Nepenthe for a snack and breathtaking views. We got a sweet spot on the deck. It was a great day! And we had our 2nd whale sighting while we were here - incredible!

The drive on Hwy 1 is so beautiful. You could literally stop every minute or so for a completely different, but totally spectacular view of the ocean and the land. We didn't stop that often, but I did insist on stopping to capture the Bixby Creek Bridge. So awesome!

We took the advice of many and did the 17 Mile Drive at Pebble Beach. It was well worth it! Very beautiful and peaceful. Lots of places to get out and explore and check out the view.

Of course, we did a little shopping, too. Matt figured out where the LYS was (swoon) ... so I picked out some pretty yarn. : ) FUN!

And how do you do all of this for only $9.64 or 2.2 gallons of gasoline?

You rent a Prius, of course! Matt was so excited about this car! It may have been his favorite part of the honeymoon. We were really thrilled when we filled the gas tank before returning the car. WOW!

Wow. I think about all the times that Randy and I drove back and forth between San Francisco and Orange County and I can't believe we never did any of that stuff. I want to see that bridge now! Oh, and I want a Prius. But I already knew that :)

Aww . . . finding the LYS for you? True love. Almost as good as Joe making sure we found the LYS in Traverse City before it closed when we went over there for his work . . . and then spending $50 without blinking an eye! Love the Prius, how fun.
